Our story

Like many kids growing up in North Carolina, I dreamed of playing college basketball. When MIT offered me a roster spot and the chance to study Mechanical Engineering, I jumped at the opportunity—but balancing late-night problem sets with early-morning practices came at a cost: injuries were constant.

I learned quickly that health = minutes on the court. Extra mobility work and prehab sessions made me a regular in the Athletic Training Room. I even won the student-athlete superlative for “Most Likely to Be Found in the Training Room” my senior year. Those hours showed me something bigger: even the most talented therapists are limited by the tools they can afford. Tight budgets forced our staff to improvise, and at season’s end I watched perfectly good tables, cold-therapy units, and exercise gear head for the dumpster because selling used equipment was just too hard.

Fast-forward a few years—and major knee surgery sent me to one of New York’s premier sports-med centers. Different city, same complaint: “Buying and off-loading equipment is a massive headache.”

That was the spark. I set out on a mission to give physical therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers a simple, dedicated, and trustworthy marketplace for their gear – OrthoGear was born.
